Telangana State Concessions To Students From Jammu & Kashmir

Telangana Takes Decision After Request From HRD
Following requests from the ministry of human resource development, the Telangana government on Monday granted concessions to the wards of Kashmiri migrants for admission into professional institutions in the state for the academic year 2016-17.

In a government order issued on Monday , the Telangana government granted relaxation in cut-off percentage of upto 10%, subject to minimum eligibility requirement, to the wards of Kashmiri migrants. Also, course wise intake capacity has been increased to 5% and the government has decided to reserve at least one seat in merit quota in technical and professional institutions.

The state government has also waived of domicile requirements for the wards of Kashmiri migrants for admissions into technical and professional institutions in the state.

The GO has been copied to the director of technical education, registrar of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University , Hyderabad, secretary of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education to provide the concessions as per orders issued by the state government. As per the GO, the director of technical education and registrars of all universities have to report the number of students admitted under this category to the MHRD, All India Council for Technical Education and state government for creating supernumerary seats to that extent.

The MHRD request comes at a time when trouble over the killing of Hijbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Vani has disrupted life in Kashmir, forcing colleges to shut down for weeks.

Hundreds of Kashmiri students flock to Hyderabad every year to pursue various courses in universities across the city .

However, there has been some incidents surrounding them in Hyderabad.

A Kashmiri student studying at English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling in his room at Basheer hostel, on the campus in March 2013.

Osmania University police said that 25year-old Kamran Mudarsi, who is a research scholar, hanged himself around Saturday night. Some of the students in the hostel, after seeing Kamran hanging from the ceiling in his room, alerted the university authorities.
